News release CCSO.  On December 3, 2017, at about 1817 hours, A Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling the North Spit of the Coos Bay in the area of Transpacific Parkway mile marker 5 when a yellow in color four wheeler was encountered travelling east, also on Transpacific Parkway. It is currently unlawful for four wheelers to operate on a highway. Furthermore, the four-wheeler was observed to not have any rear lighting. Based upon the observations, the Deputy turned around with the intent of stopping the vehicle. As the deputy was turning around, the vehicle left at a high rate of speed. The deputy was unable to catch up to the vehicle. After checking the area, the vehicle was located at the North Spit staging area near the BLM Boat Ramp, a popular location for transients to camp. Also located was 34-year old Christopher Carmack, North Bend, who admitted he had driven away at a high rate of speed to avoid a ticket. Carmack was arrested for Probation Violation, Attempt to Elude and Reckless Driving. Carmack was additionally cited for Driving While Suspended, No Tail Light, Operation of a Class I ATV without a Permit and Operation of an ATV on a Highway. Carmack was transported and booked at the Coos County Jail. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police.
