Calling all volunteers! Anyone interested in sprucing up the North Spit’s bayside beach is invited to participate in the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) annual National Public Lands Day volunteer event on Saturday, September 27, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will help pick up litter, clean campsites, and remove weeds. Participants should meet at the BLM Boat Ramp on Trans Pacific Parkway. Individuals, families and community groups of all ages are welcome. All tools, safety equipment, and materials for the projects will be provided. Volunteers should wear outdoor work clothes and bring sunscreen and water. In appreciation for their work, volunteers will receive a National Public Lands Day T-shirt. As the nation’s largest one-day volunteer event in support of public lands, National Public Lands Day hosts more than 2,100 sites in all 50 states and the District of Columbia with a wide array of activities. Volunteers’ one-day efforts will equal more than $17 million in improvements. For more information, contact Mike Kelly with the BLM at (541) 751-4488.
