The crewmember who perished during an engine room fire on board a 485-foot long chemical tanker last week off the South Oregon Coast, has been buried at sea. The Bahamian-flagged “Pine Galaxy” was about 700-miles west of Cape Blanco when the fire broke out. No one else was injured. The ship left Los Angeles Aug. 9 with a crew of 22 bound for South Korea. Most of the crew members are from China and South Korea. The refrigeration system was also damaged during the fire. The deceased’s family gave permission for the at-sea-burial. Since the Aug. 13th fire the “Pine Galaxy” has drifted about 100-miles to the northeast. A tug boat is reportedly en route to tow it to a West Coast port.
