The Coos Bay Fire Department and Coos County Emergency Management are offering you the opportunity to learn more about the Cascadia Subduction Zone.  The training will be presented at the Coos Bay Fire Department located at 450 Elrod Avenue, Coos Bay on May 26, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The class will give an overview of the science of Cascadia and explain how the Subduction zone works and the history of great earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest. A discussion on earthquake magnitude and shaking will be facilitated. Also, covered will be tsunami inundation, heights expected, evacuation, time between earthquake and tsunami, as well as other survival tips related to the earthquake and tsunami.  Time will be provided for questions and discussion. This presentation will be provided by Michael Murphy who is currently employed as the Coos County Emergency Management Program Manager. Mr. Murphy has held this position for nearly four years. He has been associated with the fire service for over 40 years, and he has worked in emergency management since 2000.  Prior to working in Coos County, he worked in Curry County for six years as the Emergency Services Coordinator. Mr. Murphy previously worked for seven years at the City of Port Orford as City Administrator, and he also had the responsibilities of Emergency Management for the City.
