VRO
News release CCSO.  On June 30th, 2017 at approximately 2037 hours, Deputies responded to 94161 Larkie Lane, Coquille, Coos County, Oregon, for a report of a violation of a restraining order. Deputies contacted Jason Maggard, who explained his ex wife, Rily Maggard, had been at his house and refused to leave. Their adult son, Grayson Maggard, arrived at the residence. After a short disturbance Rily left. At approximately 2200 hours, Deputies contacted Rily at her residence where she was taken into custody and transported to the Coos County Jail without further incident.

Supplying Contraband
News release CCSO.  On Tuesday June 27th, 2017 a Coos County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Deputy observed an unknown object being passed between Inmate Kelly Cummings to Inmate Jami Boyer in the female housing unit during evening dayroom time. This is an inmate rule violation to pass items surreptitiously. After Corrections Deputies initially investigated the incident, it was discovered that Boyer was found to be criminally in possession of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine while trying to hide it from Deputies. This possession is still under investigation. On Wednesday June 28th, 2017 the continuing investigation was began with the cooperation of Coquille Police Department and their detection K9 Kara. Corrections Deputies and Coquille Officers searched the female housing unit. During this part of the investigation Inmate Melody Miller was found in possession of methamphetamine after several attempts to hide it from Deputies. Field tests of the substance further indicated it was methamphetamine.  The methamphetamine appears to be about 10 grams.  The evidence is being submitted to the Oregon State Police crime lab for analysis. This event is still under investigation.

PCS Meth
News release CCSO.  On July 1, 2017 at approximately 3:11 am, The Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspicious circumstances at a vacant residence on Fat Elk Road. With the assistance of Coquille Police and Myrtle Point Police, Deputies responded.  Michael Davis and Dustin Anderson were located in a vehicle parked near the residence.  Davis was arrested on outstanding warrants.  A search of the vehicle yielded 27 gross grams of methamphetamine. Davis was transported to the Coos County Jail on his warrants.  The methamphetamine was seized and further charges are expected.

Attempted Theft
News release CCSO.  On 7/1/2017 at 0657 an anonymous caller reported two subjects were attempting to steal a large drift wood burl on the south side of Coos Bay near Cape Arago and Beacon Street, Coos Bay, Oregon.  The caller said the people were struggling to load the large piece of wood in the rear of a white panel van. At 0754 hours the Sheriff’s Office arrived and the people were still trying to load the large piece of wood in the back of a 1996 Dodge panel van. Two men were identified at the location and agreed to unload the large piece of wood in lieu of receiving a citation for theft.  One male, identified as Joshua R. Martin 19 YOA of Coos Bay was found to have seven outstanding warrants for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Appear I, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Theft II.  Mr. Martin was arrested without incident and transported to the Coos County Jail and lodged. Bail was listed at $200,000.00.

DUII
News release CCSO.  On 7/2/2017 at about 10:20 PM a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was returning from patrolling the area near Powers, Oregon.  While driving on the Powers Highway the Deputy came up behind a red Ford sedan driving between 35 and 45 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.  The Deputy saw the red Ford drive across the center line several times.  Twice the vehicle went all the way across into the oncoming lane. The Deputy Stopped the car and when he spoke to the driver, the Deputy could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.  Investigation indicated Breanna Bethany Harlan, age 18, was impaired and under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.  An analysis of her breath indicated a blood alcohol content of .20%. Breanna Harlan was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail when she was processed and booked.

Assault at Bastendorff
News release CCSO.  On July 3, 2017 at approximately 2:30 am, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Bastendorff Beach County Park campground for a report of an assault.  A physical fight had occurred with the victim recieving a bloody lip.  The suspect, Neal Carleton, was not at the campsite and deputies had to locate him lying in the bushes nearby.  Neal Carleton was arrested and charged with Assault IV after being involved in the altercation Armstrong, who is his sister’s boyfriend. All parties reside in Salt Lake City Utah and were vacationing together at the campground.  Carleton was found to be on probation through Douglas County, Oregon and was held in custody on a probation violation.  Carleton is currently being held at the Coos County Jail without bail.
