The North Bend Public Library will host two programs during the month of April to celebrate National Poetry Month. On Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 6:30 pm, the library will present Where Words and Music Meet. This concert and poetry reading will feature the duo Colleen O’Brien, voice and cello, and Chris Lee, percussion. For over 30 years, Lee and O’Brien have performed as the eclectic chamber jazz duo Primal Mates and currently as PoetryMusic. The current performance, Where Words and Music Meet, is dedicated to poetry set to music, music composed to poetry and poetry as a catalyst for free improvisation. The performers combine poetry, music and visual images for a unique multi-media experience. Following the program, Lee and O’Brien will take questions from the audience and facilitate a discussion about poetry and music. On Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 1:00 pm, the library will host a reading featuring Oregon poets Jon Boisvert and Kelly Terwilliger. Boisvert was born in Wisconsin and studied poetry at Oregon State University and the Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland. Born is his first book. Terwilliger grew up on the Oregon Coast and is the author of a chapbook of poems, A Glimpse of Oranges. Her most recent collection is titled Riddle Fishhook Thorn Key. She currently lives in Eugene, Oregon, where she works as an oral storyteller and poet/artist-in-residence in public schools. National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture. These events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the North Bend Public Library at 541-756-0400.
