News release CBPD.  On Thursday, May 11, 2017, at about 9 am, Coos Bay Police officers responded to the Bay Area Hospital emergency room for a report of a male patient with stab wounds.  The victim, identified as Derick Schouten, 32 years old, told officers he was stabbed with a dagger style knife by his girlfriend of two years, Kate Lyn Crosby, 35 years old, earlier that morning after a night of drinking and a dispute over the couples’ dogs.  Schouten was stabbed twice, but the injuries were not life-threatening.  Both Schouten and Crosby are currently homeless and live in a tent site in the wooded area to the west of Elrod Avenue and S. 12th Street in the Blossom Gulch area of Coos Bay.  Crosby was located at about 10:00 pm later that night in the residence of a friend in the 1200 block of S. 14th Street.  Crosby was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Coos County Jail where she was lodged on charges of Assault I, Assault II, Burglary I, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
