Vehicle into Coos River
News release from Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 12/22/2014 at about 8:20 AM, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the area on South Coos River Lane, east of the Chandler Bridge, near mile post 1.5 to a single vehicle that went into the river. Upon the deputies arrival they located 52 year old Coos Bay resident, Tina Winfrey who had been able to get out of her vehicle, a 2003 Honda CRV and swim to shore. Ms. Winfrey was the only occupant of the vehicle when it left the roadway and traveled down the embankment into the river. The vehicle floated for some distance, enough where Ms. Winfrey was able to get the window down and crawl out and swim to shore. The vehicle then became completely submerged. Ms. Winfrey refused medical treatment at the scene and returned to her residence by private vehcle.

Water Rescue
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 12/21/2014 at about 1900 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a call of 2 male subjects trapped in waist deep water in the Norway area off Hwy 42 between Coquille and Myrtle Point. It was reported that the 2 males had flipped the farm tractor they were on and were now trapped in waist deep water. First responders from Myrtle Point and Coquille Fire Departments, Myrtle Point and Coquille Ambulance services, Myrtle Point Police and Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location. Sheriff’s Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division were able to launch a drift boat and motor out to where the 2 subjects were and safely retrieve them. The subjects were identified as father and son, Nathan and Robert Ross, both of Coquille. Both subjects were check by medical personnel at the scene and refused any further medical attention.

Disabled Vehicle
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 12/21/2014 at about 11:57 PM, Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a relay call through the Coquille Police Department that a tow vehicle had been called to the area just east of Myrtle Point, MP 1.5 on Sitkum Lane for a vehicle that had become submerged on Sitkum Lane. The Tow Truck was unable to reach the vehicle because of the high water. The operator of the vehicle, 66 year old Myrtle Point resident, Dennis Dennison had to leave the vehicle, a 2000 Ford Ranger Pickup in the water at that location until morning in order to make arrangements to retrieve the vehicle. Mr. Dennison was not injured.
