An attempt to take an 18-foot fiberglass along the shoreline between Gold Beach and Brookings Monday, May 20, turned out bad near Myers Creek when the boat flipped.  According to reports, 62-year old Scott Holland, of Gold Beach, was in the cold ocean waters about 20-minutes with a life vest on when he was rescued.  Luckily, a person on shore saw the boat capsize shortly after noon and that one person was in the water.  Gold Beach rescue swimmers, a Curry Co. Sheriff’s SAR swimmer, and an Oregon State Police Trooper in a dry suit all entered the water and spotted Holland about 100-yards offshore struggling to swim against the breaking surf.  They were able to reach him and assist to shore where EMTs treated him for possible hypothermia.
