On Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 6:34 pm, Douglas County 9-1-1 was notified of an injury vehicle crash in the area of Coos Bay Wagon Road and Reston Road in Tenmile. The caller reported he was transporting one victim from the scene to the Tenmile Store to meet responders and that a second was unresponsive at the scene. Deputies arrived and discovered a 1992 Plymouth Voyager van approximately fifty feet down an embankment. The driver of the vehicle, 54 year-old Charles Cranford of Lookingglass, was determined to be deceased. The passenger, 56 year-old Nanette Shaffer also of Lookingglass, was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg where she was treated and later transferred to Sacred Heart at Riverbend Hospital in Eugene. Next of kin has been notified and the crash is still under investigation.
