The City of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Fire Department are preparing for Fire Prevention Week. This year, Fire Prevention Week will be October 7th through the 13th. During this week, the Coos Bay Fire Department will be busy spreading this year’s fire safety message: “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere.” The latest statistics from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) show that if you have a reported fire in your home, you are more likely to die today than you were a few decades ago. This startling statistic is behind this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere. ™”  Through three simple calls-to-action, this year’s theme identifies basic but essential ways people can reduce their risk to fire and be prepared in the event of one: Look for places fire can start; Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm; Learn two ways out of each room. Coos Bay Firefighters would like to invite everyone to our open house to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. The open house will be held at Coos Bay Fire Station No.1 located at 450 Elrod Avenue, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on October 10th. There will be free food, games for kids, and lots of fire prevention and fire safety information. The Coos Bay Fire Department will also be answering questions that you may have.   The City of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Fire Department are committed to keeping the community safe. Please check our website and Facebook to watch for announcements for future training opportunities on fire safety, CPR, and disaster preparedness. If you have questions, please call the Coos Bay Fire Department at 541-269-1191.
