Firefighters from CFPA responded just before 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, to a fire in the Lobster Creek drainage northeast of Gold Beach, OR. The fire is currently estimated at 300 acres. Firefighting resources from CFPA, the US Forest Service, Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Gold Beach Fire, Ophir RFD, and local logging companies are currently battling the fire with fire engines, bulldozers, and firefighters. The fire is under investigation. The fire is burning on private lands. Strong winds, low relative humidity, and high temperatures caused the fire to run and spot across roads. There is still a long time to go until our fall rains get here, so CFPA is urging the people to remember fire prevention whenever they are out in the forests. Forest fuels are dry and will only get drier as the summer goes on.
