CBFD release – Disasters can strike quickly and without warning. It can force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services such as water, gas, electricity or telephones were cut off? Emergency response personnel will be on scene shortly after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone right away. Families can cope with a disaster by preparing in advance and working as a team. If a natural disaster hits our area the Coos Bay Fire Department and Northwest Natural want you and your family to be prepared. Join us on Saturday, September 22nd for a natural disaster preparedness event that will help you Get Ready. Coos Bay Fire Department and Northwest Natural have partnered to bring you this event. The American Red Cross, public safety agencies, local businesses and many other organizations will be available to answer your questions. 60 minute break-out sessions will be presented by Coos County Emergency Management and Southwestern Oregon Preppers. During the Get Ready Coos Bay event we will be providing a free lunch and the first 100 families that attend will also receive a Free Preparedness Item. All area residents are welcome and encouraged to attend. It’s all taking place on Saturday, September 22nd from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the Coos Bay Fire Department, which is located at 450 Elrod Ave. Join the Coos Bay Fire Department and Northwest Natural and let’s Get Ready Coos Bay! The Coos Bay Fire Department would like to remind everyone to keep enough supplies in your home to meet your needs for at least three days. Assemble a Disaster Supply Kit with items you may need in the event of an evacuation. Store your supplies in sturdy, easy to carry containers such as backpacks or duffle bags.
