According to figures provided by the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, the commercial Dungeness Crab season that just ended was the highest dollar value ever for Oregon fishermen. Oregon’s commercial crabbers landed 14,127,781 million pounds worth $50,903,099 million. The previous high was $50,002,671 set during the 2013 season. Astoria led the Oregon Coast in landings with 4,433,638 million lbs., worth $15,231,113 million. Newport was second with 4,157,648 million lbs. landed, but the value on the Central Coast pulled in a little more than the North Coast at $15,260,707 million. Charleston was third in landings with 2.7 million lbs., worth $9.8 million, Brookings followed with 1.2 million lbs., worth $4.5 million, Garibaldi landed 596,470 lbs., worth $2.3 million, Winchester Bay landed 405,270 lbs., worth $1.8 million, and Port Orford was seventh with 475,180 lbs. landed, worth $1.7 million. The commercial Dungeness Crab season normally runs from the first of December through the middle of August; however, weather, meat content & percentage, and toxins can delay the start.
