Cultivating Mind and Body is the theme of the 2015 Homemaker’s Holiday, an annual event hosted by the Coos County Family & Community Educators and the OSU Coos County Extension Service. Frank Smoot, Executive Director of the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum, will be the keynote speaker. Frank will share the history of the museum, and highlight what the museum has to offer, as well as their focus moving forward in their new building. Entertainment will be provided by Passin’ Notes, a sister duo who will share their vocal talents with a wide range of music from country to pop. Attendees will have a selection of four educational and enlightening classes to attend: “Square Foot Gardening,” covering the fundamentals of growing healthy plants in a limited amount of space; “Chair Yoga,” a low-impact, easy-to-do exercise plan for all ages; “Gadget Expo,” an introduction to popular electronic tablets and e-readers, and information on free county library services; and “Pinterested in Facebookin’?”, a class on the basics of using Pinterest and Facebook. Homemaker’s Holiday guests might also enjoy shopping the plant sale, or purchasing drawing tickets for a variety of lovely gift baskets. A continental breakfast and sandwich and salad luncheon will be served. The event will be held on Friday, April 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road in Coos Bay. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any FCE member for $8, or at the door for $10. For more information call the Coos County Extension Service at 541-572-5263, ext. 25292 or 25299.
