The operator of the Freightliner was, 49 year old Kelly KIME, from the Grants Pass area. The operator of the Toyota was identified as, 65 year old, Vernon BLACK, from Rancho Cucamonga, California and the passenger was identified as, 59 year old Rachael BLACK, also from Ranch Cucamonga, California. PREVIOUS: On December 28, 2017, at approximately 1:15 PM, Troopers from the Central Point Area Command responded to a semi-tractor/passenger car crash on Highway 140 at the intersection of Kershaw Road. This crash was in Jackson County and is approximately 3 mile northeast of Medford. The preliminary investigation has determined that a 2001 Freightliner was westbound on Highway 140 near milepost 2 when a 2013 Toyota Camry, that was northbound on Kershaw, failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the path of the Freightliner. There were two occupants in the Toyota and they were pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. The names of those involved will be released at a later date. The operator of the semi was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation and no criminal charges are being considered.
