On Saturday, July 27, 2019, at approximately 1:50 P.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 26 near MP 72.5 east of Mitchell, Oregon. Preliminary investigation revealed that a tan Toyota Tacoma, operated by Drew Knowles (36) of Mt. Vernon, Oregon, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 26 when for unknown reasons he left the roadway and traveled off a steep embankment. Knowles sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hwy 26 westbound was closed for several hours following the crash.
