On Thursday, October 4, 2018, at approximately 9:29 AM. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle collision on Hwy 62 near mile post 16. Investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevy Aveo operated by Argelia Avina (45) of Shady Cove, was traveling westbound on Hwy 62. Two tow trucks were stopped, with warning lights activated, blocking the right lane of the two westbound lanes. The first tow truck was in the process of securing a disabled vehicle. The second tow truck was stopped behind the first, and the driver was outside the vehicle flagging traffic around into the left lane. For unknown reasons Avina did not merge into the left lane and struck the back of the parked tow truck. Avina was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center by Mercy Flights Ambulance. Avina was pronounced deceased while being transported to the hospital.
