BAH release – The Kids’ HOPE Center got a big boost from the Coquille Tribal Community Fund. The center received a $15,000 grant this month. A portion of the grant funds ($3,000) will help cover expenses for Family Fun Day, which will take place on April 28 at John Topits Park. The rest of the money will enhance community outreach efforts at the center. Brochures, public education, marketing materials, and the like help raise awareness about the services provided by the Kids’ Hope Center. “We couldn’t be more blessed by the ongoing support we have received from the Coquille Tribal Community Fund year after year,” says JoAnne Shorb, Kids’ HOPE Center Program Director. “Many of the projects we have been able to accomplish have been thanks to received funding from the tribe, and this grant is no exception. We will be using these dollars to further our educational outreach efforts within the community, ensuring that program information is accessible, that agency brochures and information is available throughout the county, and that events like our annual Family Fun Day and Run for the Kids, foster positive, healthy interactions for parents and their children.” The Kids’ HOPE Center supports families and child abuse victims through the provision of an all-inclusive Center where forensic child interview and medical examinations take place. Guardians and victims are offered support navigating the challenging legal prosecution system. Intervention and advocacy services are provided to families through referrals and follow-ups with partnering community agencies, initiated by Kids’ HOPE Center staff. Founded in 2001 by the Coquille Indian Tribe, the Tribal Community Fund has distributed more than $6.1 million to support projects in the areas of education, health, public safety, arts and culture, problem gaming treatment and historic preservation, in a five-county region of Southwestern Oregon.
