Shaylen Crook xc
Marshfield’s Shaylen Crook, the 4A State Cross Country Champion this season, participated in the annual Border Clash Saturday night at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton. Team Washington swept both the boys and girls team trophies, but Matthew Maton, the 5A Oregon champion this year, won the boy’s individual title (13:28). Crook, a senior for the Pirates, was 36th overall, running the 4,387 meter course in 17:11. She was 15th among the Oregon runners. Siuslaw’s Mitchell Butler was seventh overall (13:55) in the boy’s race, while teammate Mack Marbas was 14th (14:07).

For the second time this prep football season, Cottage Grove downed North Bend in a close game. This time it was a 37-34 score, but it was also in the state 4A semi-final playoffs at Autzen Stadium in Eugene Saturday night. The win propels the Lions into the title game to face Ridgeview of Redmond Saturday. The Bulldogs finish with a 10-2 record.
