6-8th Pirate XC Meet Report – Woahink Lake Invitational
Update from Coach Steve Delgado. Taking an early morning bus ride on Saturday up to Florence the Pirates faced a loaded field of FWL and Roseburg teams at the Woahink Lake Invitational. For many of the team members this was their third race in a week. Even with a 10:00 AM start time the sun was out and conditions were warm and humid. The Woahink course tends to produce times thirty seconds slower than Driftwood and matches up well in times with the North Bend course from the first meet. In the girls race Kaylee Delzotti (7th – Millicoma) had her best race so far in the season. Trailing the two leaders by 14 seconds at the 1k mark she pulled within 8 seconds with 500m to go and then within 3 seconds at the finish. Kaylee’s third place overall matched her result at the first meet of the season against the same field but she closed the gap on the overall winner, Kaeli Ramos (8th – Siuslaw),who had beaten her by 17 seconds previously. Parker Stocker (8th – MHS) came within a few seconds of matching her time from the NB meet. Heather Grant & Molly Picatti (Millicoma – 6th) bettered their NB times by almost 30 seconds. For Molly her time of 16:02 was a season PR. Kensey Harlow (Millicoma – 6th) also set a new season PR at 16:30. The Marshfield girls finished 4th out of 7 teams in the team competition. For the boys it was an opportunity to race the Joseph Lane team that beat the Pirates by one point at the NB meet. Unfortunately Saturday would not be the day for the Young Bucs as Jo Lane came away with the overall team win 39 to 48 for the Pirates. North Bend finished well back in third place at 76 points. Several team members were coming off having colds or heavy legs from the Kid’s Pre and Cape Blanco races earlier in the week. Jeremy Roe (8th – MHS) improved two places finishing 3rd overall versus his 5th place at the NB meet. Gabe Delgado (8th – MHS) also improved one place beating out the Jo Lane runner who had bested him a few weeks earlier for 6th overall. Zach Holt (6th – Millicoma) moved into the #3 spot for the Pirates with an impressive 9th place overall finish improving 5 places over his NB result. Jordan Graves (6th – Millicoma) had a breakout performance running almost 3 minutes faster than his first meet to finish in 16:34. Bryson Brady (8th – MHS) finishing in 17:46 was only 6 seconds off from matching his time at Driftwood. Donovan England (6th – Millicoma) set a 39 second season PR in his second race of the season. The Pirates play host to the entire Far West League on Thursday at our annual home meet the Sunset Beach Invitational. Girls race at 2 PM followed by the Boys at 2:30.
