Marshfield’s boys and Siuslaw’s girls won the Far West League district cross country championships at Brookings Thursday. The Pirate boys tallied 39-points, while Siuslaw had 44 for second. North Bend came in third (55), followed by the host Bruins (90), and South Umpqua (116). The Lady Viks won with 31-points, while North Bend was second (25), followed by South Umpqua (93), Marshfield (98) and Brookings-Harbor fifth (123). Individually, Seth Campbell of Siuslaw won the boy’s 5K race in 16:22.12, he was followed by Marshfield’s Colby Gillett (16:36.42), and the Pirates’ Sawyer Heckard (16:46.51). North Bend’s Michael Brown was fourth (16:46.51) and the Bulldogs’ Nick Hossley in sixth (16:52.29). Marshfield’s Dakota Pittullo was seventh (17:20.72), and North Bend’s Alberto Ramierz-Garcia eighth (17:27.27). North Bend’s Gabby Hobson was second in 20:13.62. Bay Area Rivalry
With the 2014 Far West League football title on the line tonight, unbeaten North Bend travels to once-beaten Marshfield for a Bay Area Rivalry football game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Pete Susick Stadium. Both teams have already secured home playoff games.
