7/8th Marshfield Pirates Meet Report
Report from Steve Delgado, track coach. Last Thursday the Pirate 7/8th Track Team hosted Reedsport and Bandon in the season opener for the Far West League. It was a beautiful day at Prefontaine Track as over 70 Pirates took to competing in the 15 events offered. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the meet possible! Here are just some of the performance highlights: 7th Girls: Continuing her winning ways from XC Kaylee Delzotti won the 100m, 200m (fastest in FWL; 4th in the State), and Long Jump (best in FWL; 3rd in State) and anchored the 4×100 team. Ashley Warrick won the girls 200 hurdle in a FWL leading time and was second to teammate MaKenna Anderson in the 100 hurdles; those times also first and second best in league. 7th Boys: Kyran Erwin, another Pirate XC harrier, achieved victory in the 1500 (3rd in FWL) and 800 meter (1st in FWL) events putting up solid times at the season opener. Throwing newcomer Macen West placed first in the Javelin and Discus (1st in FWL) and second in the shot. And Landon Ginn-Forsberg cleared 4’ 10” (tied 1st in FWL; 6th in State) in high jump. Carson Shield led the boys with a 16’ 8” long jump mark (1st in FWL; 1st in State). 8th Girls: Khaley Aguilar topped her previous meet PR in pole vault with a 9’ 6” (1st in FWL by 2’; 1st in State) clearance then went on to win the 100 and 200 hurdle events (1st in FWL; 2nd in State) and run 3rd leg on the 4×400 team. Her 4×400 teammate Ravyn Miranda took first in the 100m, anchored the 4×100, and came 1” shy of tying her lifetime meet PR in long jump (1st in FWL; 2nd in State). The remaining 4×400 team members also saw success in their other events. Mallory Heyer matched her lifetime high jump PR with a 4’ 10” clearance in high jump (1st FWL; tied 1st in State). Tess Garrett ran alone in the 800m and 400m events (1st in FWL; 1st in State). Not to be outdone by her running teammates Meg Holt posted lifetime PR marks in discus (1st in FWL) and javelin (2nd in FWL), winning both events. 8th Boys: With 42 boys on the 8th grade squad there is a lot of talent and depth in every event. Track newcomer Cory Stover won the boys 100m (3rd in FWL) and 200m (1st in FWL) posting some good early season times. Gabe Prasad had a long jump mark of over 17’ (1st FWL). He and Jeremy Roe went 1-2 in the 400 for the 2nd and 3rd fastest times in FWL. Micah Tardie and newcomer Matthew Hasel lead the FWL with each clearing 5’ 2” in the high jump. Newcomer Jacob Carpenter posted a sub :20 in the 100 hurdles closely followed by teammates Marcus Rosta and Joe Martin (1st ,2nd , 3rd in FWL). Tristin Lemmons earned a fast early season time in the 1500 (2nd fastest in State), won the 200 hurdles ( 1st FWL) and anchored the 4×400 team (1st in FWL by :14). Kamm Frost looks to continue his throwing dominance of a year ago posting a first place in shot, and second in discus and javelin. Kamm has company however with solid performances from a very deep and talented thrower crew. Troy Liggett was first in discus with a near 4’ improvement over his best mark last year. Kamren Chard had a 15” lifetime PR in vault clearing 8’ 6” (tied for 2nd in FWL). He was joined at that clearance by teammate Chase Howerton who then ran away from the 800 field to a 7+ second victory (1st in FWL). The 7/8th Pirates will next be in action this Friday as we travel north in a four-way meet versus meet host Siuslaw Vikings, the Coquille Red Devils and the Myrtle Point Bobcats. Go Bucs!
