News alert from the Oregon Dept. of Transportation, Sunday, Oct. 26, 9:51 a.m. – ODOT: SW Oregon: McCullough Bridge is now open. The bridge, which is located on U.S. Highway 101 in North Bend, had been closed since Wednesday, Oct. 22, when a temporary work enclosure slid more than 60-feet out of place following a collision with a pickup truck that resulted in the death of the driver, a 52-year old male from Florence who was a mechanic with the contractor working on the historic bridge. Motorists are still advised to use caution when crossing the bridge. Both sidewalks on the bridge will remain closed through this week.
