A 33-year old Myrtle Pt. male is in a hospital in Springfield with a shotgun wound to one of his legs following an alleged burglary attempt Wednesday, August 3. According to a news release from Coos Co. District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, a 911 call came in about 8:21 a.m., from a residence on the 900 block of Spruce St. “The homeowner reported that a burglar had entered the home at that address. A juvenile resident of the home was inside when the burglar gained entrance into the home and began looking for property to steal.” The 15-year old shot the burglar in the leg. He was identified as Kenneth John Edwards III. He was initially transported to Coquille Valley Hospital, but then transferred to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. The wound was described as serious, but not life threatening. Frasier states his “initial conclusion is that the shooting of Mr. Edwards was a justifiable use of force.”
