North Bend’s boy’s doubles tennis team placed third at the OSAA State Championships Saturday at the OSU Tennis Complex in Corvallis. James Jordan and Stewart Lyons were third in the 4A/3A/2A/1A classification. The two Bulldogs bettered a team from Oregon Episcopal 6-4, 6-4 in the third place match. North Bend placed fourth as a team. The Bulldogs girl’s doubles team of Hannah Schandelmeir-Lynch lost to a Henley team in a consolation semifinal match Saturday.

Marshfield will play at Newport Wednesday, May 25, 4:30 p.m. in the First Round of the OSAA State Softball playoffs. Far West League champion Douglas will host Crook Co. in another First Round game, Wednesday. Winners advance to the quarterfinal round on Friday, May 27. Marshfield (18-7) and Newport (22-5) opened the season against one another in Coos Bay back on March 17. The Lady Pirates won 6-2.

North Bend will host Astoria in the First Round of the OSAA State Baseball playoffs Wednesday, May 25, at Clyde Allen Field in North Bend. The Bulldogs (20-5) won the 4A Far West League, and the Fishermen (15-11) are the No. 3 team out of the Cowapa League. The winner advances to the quarterfinal round Friday, May 27.

Marshfield’s girls were third and North Bend’s boys fourth following the two-day OSAA State Track & Field Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene Friday and Saturday. It was a coastal sweep of the top three trophies in the 4A classification as Astoria (109.5) won the team title, with Siuslaw (72) second, and the Lady Pirates (63.5) third. Henley (83.5) won the boy’s crown, but the next three teams were all from the coast. Newport (59.5) placed second, Tillamook (47) third, and the Bulldogs (44.5) brought home the fourth place trophy. Marshfield’s boys were sixth with 35-points. Individually, North Bend’s Michael Brown won the 3000, and Drae Stark was second in the High Hurdles. Marshfield’s Hunter Drops was first in the Pole Vault and second in the Javelin. Teammate Isaac Smith was second in High Jump. Marshfield’s Mckenzie Allison won the Javelin, the Lady Pirates short relay team placed second, freshman Ravyn Miranda took second in the Long Jump, and their senior captain Isabel Groth was second in the 100 Hurdles.
