Booster Clubs
The North Bend and Marshfield booster clubs meet today at noon. The Pirate backers will gather at Abby’s Pizza in Coos Bay, while the Bulldog supporters meet at the high school’s Hall of Champions. Both luncheons are open to those interested in Bay Area sports.

North Bend won the boy’s portion and Siuslaw the girls in a Far West League track meet at Marshfield in Coos Bay Tuesday. The host Pirates took third in both team races, while the Bulldog girls were second to the Lady Viks. North Bend’s Drae Stark won the 100 (11.67) and 300IH (41.76). Both teams will compete in the Prefontaine Rotary Invitational at MHS Saturday.

A three-run homer by senior Katelyn Rossback tied the 2015 4A Far West League softball opener with Brookings-Harbor in Coos Bay Tuesday 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the seventh, the Lady Pirates got the winning run on when leadoff batter Khalani Hoyer reached base on an error. The junior then stole second and third with Carly Clarkson at the plate. Clarkson then laid down a slap-bunt scoring Hoyer and giving Marshfield a 10-9 win. In other FWL games, North Bend and Douglas were rained out in Winston, while South Umpqua beat visiting Siuslaw 12-1 in five innings at Tri City. North Bend and Douglas will try again today, 5 p.m., at Douglas.

Marshfield, North Bend and South Umpqua got opening day wins in the 2015 4A Far West League baseball race Tuesday. The Pirates won at Brookings-Harbor 7-1, while both North Bend and South Umpqua won at home. The Bulldogs beat Douglas 12-6 at Clyde Allen Field, while the Lancers downed visiting Siuslaw 13-3 in five innings in Tri City.
