News release SWOCC.  Southwestern Oregon Community College Athletics department is excited to host a presentation by Dr. Bethany Tennant, an expert in nutrition. This is a free community event to learn about general nutrition for athletes and anyone interested in eating a healthy diet. The presentation will be held at 7 pm on October 19, 2017 in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Coos campus of Southwestern Oregon Community College, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. A question and answer period will follow the presentation. Student-athletes of all ages are encouraged to attend as well as coaches, teachers, parents and administrators who are invested in the future of our youth in the community. Dr. Bethany Tennant is a licensed Naturopathic Physician.  She graduated with honors in research from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Following graduation, she went on to complete a post-doctoral research fellowship in the areas of Parkinson’s disease and nutrition. She is also a Certified Nutrition Specialist and sports massage therapist (trained in New York). Natural sports medicine is her specialty and she deals with matters of prevention, performance, recovery, pain management, and injury rehabilitation with high-school, college, and professional level athletes (USATF, D-League, FIBA, NBA, NFL). A New York native, she earned her bachelor’s degree at Houghton College as both a pre-med student and varsity scholarship basketball player. Her areas of interest include: sports medicine, pain management, and neurodegenerative conditions. She has collaborated with several sports organizations including; with the Brian Grant Foundation as nutrition expert at their and executive committee member; Nike N7 Ambassador Damen Bell-Holter as Health & Wellness Advisor to his Blessed to Bless camps, partnered with both MaxHoops and Open Gym Premier as sports nutrition guest speaker and has presented at several HS and college programs in the area of sports nutrition training. Dr. Bethany Tennant also has corporate wellness experience serving as Medical Director in a New York based company to advise nutrition, exercise, stress management, and create large scale impact for corporate clients. She is passionate about health, wellness, and fitness. As someone who loves to travel, she has also had international experience traveling to the Czech Republic as a collegiate basketball player for clinics, training, and competition; Zambia as a pre-med student; Suriname, South America as Peace Corps Volunteer (Community Health Educator); Nicaragua to work in an established clinic; and in Mexico for a basketball/community outreach. As a transplant she loves exploring the Pacific Northwest, attending Timbers, Thorns and Trailblazers games as well as enjoying Portland’s great food. She recently completed her first Hood to Coast relay!
