Fall salmon fisheries in Columbia and coastal rivers – The Buoy 10 and coastal fall salmon seasons are now open. Buoy 10 Chinook fishing has been excellent. More information on Buoy 10 and Columbia fisheries; more information on coastal rivers. Ocean salmon fishing – The best catch rates for ocean Chinook have been in Winchester Bay and points south. However, fishing north of Cape Falcon continues to improve, and the tremendous returns of Chinook forecast for the Columbia River should provide great fishing both in the ocean and the Columbia River in August. Bird hunting regulations online – Apply now for bird hunts – The complete regulations are online and print versions should be in stores by Aug. 20. Some bird hunting application deadlines are coming up in August and early September including sage-grouse (deadline Aug. 25), Eastern Oregon fall turkey (deadline Sept. 16), Klamath & Sauvie Island Wildlife Area (deadline Sept. 13). Apply online, at a license sales agent, by mail or fax order. Free youth pheasant hunts around the state in September – Register now! – Special free pheasant hunts for hunter education certified youth (age 17 and under) at locations around the state (Baker City, Central Point, Corvallis, Eugene, Irrigon/Umatilla, John Day, K-Falls, La Grande, Madras, Portland, The Dalles/Wamic).
