NBPD release – On Monday, October 29, 2018, at 9:14 p.m., North Bend Police Officers arrested 31-year-old Anthony Lyman, a Coos County transient, in connection with two armed robberies. At 7:49 p.m., Lyman entered the Chevron at 1300 Virginia Ave and attempted to steal a $5 beer. When confronted by employees, he punched one of them in the face and brandished a knife and threatened the employee. He fled prior to police arrival. A short time later, Lyman entered into Tiny’s Tavern, 1971 Union, North Bend, and demanded a bottle of whiskey and all the money from the cash register, telling the bartender that he was “robbing the place.” Several patrons stepped in to intervene at which point Lyman yelled that he had a gun, knife, and taser and threatened to “fire the place up.” The bartender called police. Upon the arrival of three police officers, Lyman punched one of them in the chest and fought with officers stating he had two knives. He began reaching for his pocket. Officers took Lyman to the ground and a knife dropped from his pocket. A second knife was found in his pants pocket. No gun or taser was found. Lyman was transported to Coos County Jail, where he was booked on charges of Robbery II – two counts / Unlawful Use of a Weapon – two counts / Menacing – two counts / Theft II – Attempted / Theft III / Assault IV / Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Public Safety Officer.
