Transient arrested
A welfare check underneath the Coal Bank Slough Bridge in Coos Bay Jan. 7, 1:50 p.m., led to an arrest. According to an Oregon State Police (OSP) report, 55-year old Charles Duane Knaus, “on parole with stipulations of no alcohol consumption,” was arrested after his parole officer was contacted and a detainer was issued. He was transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.

Vehicles impounded
According to an OSP report for Jan. 9, 12:28 p.m., Hwy. 240, Cape Arago Hwy., mp 1.1 eastbound, “operator stopped for equipment violations, found to be driving uninsured.” Thirty-four year old Travis Ivan Warnock, Coos Bay, issued criminal citation for Giving False Information Regarding Liability Insurance. White Ford Excursion impounded. On Jan. 9, 10:35 p.m., Hwy. 42, mp 5.5, eastbound. “Vehicle stopped for VBR after vehicle passed me on Green Acres curve.” Thirty-two year old Matthew Dean Weathers, Coos Bay, found to be DWS and Driving Uninsured. Black Ford PRO impounded. On Jan. 11, 1:28 p.m., Adams Land and Linton Lane, a green Plymouth Neon was stopped for improper display of registration stickers. “I determined the driver had no operator’s license and was driving uninsured.” Thirty-eight year old Paubla Indalecio Perez, Coquille, was cited and the vehicle impounded. On Jan. 11, 4:23 p.m., Hwy. 101 & Curtis Ave., Coos Bay, a white Dodge Durango, “I stopped an individual for operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile communication device and determined that the driver was uninsured.” Thirty-nine year old Tracee Lynn Hanson, Coos Bay, was cited and the vehicle impounded.

Pistol Seized
According to an OSP report, “I was dispatched to investigate an OSP Firearms Section stolen firearms at Bandon Feed. The hit occurred when the dealer (Bandon Feed) initiated a background check to sell a pistol. The pistol was reportedly stolen in 1985 in Connecticut. The dealer reports they purchased the pistol from another dealer in Connecticut. The pistol was seized and entered into evidence pending investigation.”

Convicted felon
A firearms purchase at Bandon Feed in Bandon Jan. 13, 4:23 p.m., was denied “because the attempted purchaser was a convicted felon.” According to an OSP report, Jessy James Smith met with a state trooper Jan. 14 at the OSP office in North Bend. “Mr. Smith said he thought that because his conviction occurred when he was 15, he thought it ‘went away’ when he turned 18. He admitted he didn’t have any documentation from any court that indicated this was true.” He was advised to contact the court in Clark Co., WA. “I also provided Mr. Smith with printed copies of three Class A Misdemeanor Statutes that he was guilty of violating when he indicated and signed his ATF Form 4473 affirming that he had never been convicted of a felony. A copy of this report is being forwarded to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.”

DUII
An off-duty Reedsport Police officer observed a red Honda CRV “driving all over the roadway and nearly colliding with 2 other vehicles,” Jan. 10, 12:49 p.m., on Hwy. 101, mp 219 southbound. According to an OSP report, Janet Marie Light, Mapleton, pulled over to the shoulder where she was contacted. “She showed signs of impairment, but claimed to have a medical emergency.” An ambulance responded and “verified there was no medical emergency.” The driver failed a Field Sobriety Test and transported to Reedsport PD. A juvenile passenger was released to a family member. Light was cited for DUII, Reckless Endangering and Reckless Endangering Person. She was released to a family member.
