Truck Scale Accident
A white Hyundai Santa Fe ended on top of a guardrail at the Coaledo Scales on Hwy. 42 following a single-vehicle accident May 7, 9:17 p.m.  According to an Oregon State Police report, the driver, 51-year old Sherri Odetta Lester said she reached for a fallen object when the vehicle crashed.  Damage to the guardrail was estimated between $4,000 and $5,000.  “Charges are being referred for Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief II.

Drug paraphernalia
An Oregon State Police trooper claimed to have “observed indicators of criminal activity” when he stopped a purple mauve Ford May 9, 6:23 p.m., on Spinreel Road between Hwy. 101 and Sherry Barbie Lane.  According to an OSP report, the vehicle was stopped for “multiple traffic violation.”  The driver, 29-year old Melissa Jo Neal, North Bend, was cited for Driving While Suspended.  There were two juvenile females in the vehicle.  During a search of the vehicle, “I located suspected drug paraphernalia.  Charges are being referred to the DA’s Office pending lab analysis.”

Suspended Driver
An Oregon State Police trooper recognized the driver of a dark green Cadillac Seville as a suspended driver and stopped the vehicle on Hwy. 240 at Everett St., May 10, 7:21 p.m.  According to an OSP report, the driver was identified as 31-year old Jacob D. Burch, Coos Bay.  “As I turned around, he pulled into a parking area, and left the vehicle on foot.  His passenger followed suit.  Mr. Burch crossed the street, J-Walking.  I stopped him, and his associate crossed the street.”  The associate was identified as 22-year old Kevin Alan Fitzgerald, North Bend.  A bystander allegedly observed Fitzgerald “secrete something, later identified as controlled substances and a weapon, in the bushes.”  Both were transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.  Burch, who “exhibited signs of impairment,” refused to perform Field Sobriety Tests.  He did a Breath Test, but refused the Urine Test and a DRE Evaluation.  “DUII will be referred to the Coos County DA.  He was cited for Failure to Return a Suspended License, as well as DWS and Fail to File SR-22.”
