The Oregon State men’s rowing team got its fall season off to a fast start Sunday registering a three wins at the Portland Fall Classic in interim head coach Gabe Winkler’s debut at the helm of the Beavers’ rowing program. “It was a solid day overall,” Winkler said. “I’m pretty happy with how things went especially with the new guys. The freshmen, in their first college race, had a really solid day.” Racing with even lineups, Winkler sent three Varsity 8 crews out to race on the 5,000-meter course along the Willamette River Sunday morning. The OSU ‘A’ boat coxed by Jacqueline Logsdon raced to victory with a time of 15-minutes, 48.86-seconds, seven seconds ahead of the Beavers’ ‘B’ boat coxed by Eric Sumner. OSU’s ‘C’ coxed by Ben Augeri, which raced in the Junior Varsity field posted the third-fastest time of the day overall at 16:00.80 winning the JV race. Oregon State also put four freshmen in the Varsity 4+ coxed by Zackerie Moffitt, which covered the course in 18:01.22 to earn a gold medal finish. “Everything went in the right direction today and now we’ve got a few days to get ready for next weekend. It’s a big one.” The Beavers return to competition next Saturday at the Head of the Lake regatta in Seattle.
