A project to smooth asphalt at four locations near Beverly Beach in Lincoln County will restrict travel on Hwy. 101 to a single lane. Beginning at Monday, January 26 at 8 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m., an asphalt grinder will profile the pavement between Beverly Beach State Park and the Newport city limit (MP 133-136). This is an area of landslide activity. The large size of the slide makes a permanent fix extremely costly. So ODOT maintenance crews routinely monitor pavement conditions in the area and respond, as needed, to make repairs. Pavement profiling, or grinding the pavement, will make the ride smoother. During the profiling, traffic will be controlled by flaggers, creating delays of no more than twenty minutes for travelers.
