News release Newport PD. On April 20, 2016, at 1:50 p.m., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of JC Market located at 107 North Coast Highway. The reporting witness stated he had just seen a gray Ford Ranger pickup driving in the parking lot towards a female who was walking. The driver was described as a white female adult, and later identified as Robin L. Craig, age 40 of Newport. A second independent witness reported to Officers that she saw the vehicle almost hit the female, who would have been struck if she had not jumped out of the way. This witness stated she was certain this act was intentional because Craig repositioned the vehicle in an attempt to hit the victim, all the while yelling at her. When Craig was questioned by Officers, she admitted she was driving the vehicle. She said the female victim had stolen a puppy from one of her friends. She was just telling the female victim to return it. Craig also stated she was never closer to the victim than two or three feet. Craig was arrested and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on the charges of: Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Menacing, and Attempted Assault I. Her bail was set at $95,000.00. Anyone with information they wish to report is asked to contact Officer Brad Purdom at 541-574-3348. The Newport Police Tip line is available at 541-574-5455, or Text a Tip at 541-270-1856.
