All those who are fascinated by the natural history of the Oregon coast are invited to join CoastWatch for an intensive, three-day shoreline science workshop, coming up in Yachats, July 28-30.  Places are still available, but are limited, so be sure to register now.  The workshop will be led by ecologist Stewart Schultz, author of The Northwest Coast: A Natural History and a wide-ranging authority on the Northwest’s coastal environment. He will be joined by Fawn Custer, CoastWatch’s volunteer coordinator.  During three packed days of instruction, participants will explore many facets of coastal and marine science through field trips and laboratory experiences, as well as slide talks. The workshop will cover everything from tidepools and sandy beaches, to estuarine and ocean ecosystems, to geology and forests, to marine mammals and birds.  Matters of concern such as marine debris and invasive species will also be discussed. The workshop can provide two college credits.  The workshop will be held July 28-30 at the Yachats Commons, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the first day, and at 8 a.m. on the final two days, lasting until approximately 4:30 p.m. each day. Workshop fee is $100 for members of the public.  Discounts are available for CoastWatch volunteers and Oregon Shores members (and it is possible to join Oregon Shores at the time of registering and take the discount).  To register online, go to the oregonshores.org website, where you will find a link. For more information, or to register by mail, contact Fawn Custer, (541) 270-0027, fawn@oregonshores.org
