The victim in this incident has now been identified as 60-year old John Douglas Layton of Salem. Mr. Layton was the pilot and sole occupant of the airplane. The investigation will continue with the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) as the primary investigating agency. A small airplane crashed at the Salem Airport during takeoff on Saturday morning, July 4.
