Firefighters from the Coos Forest Protective Association are working to establish a fire line around a wildfire that broke out in the Sandy Creek area of southeast Coos County this Memorial Day weekend. The fire was reported about 1 p.m., Sunday, May 25 and resulted in the evacuation of a nearby Church Camp and two homes. No structures were involved and no one was injured. The fire, on private land, was believed to have started when a burn by a landowner got away from him. After working through the night, officials are hoping to have the fire-line trail circling the fire completed by Tuesday.
