News release City of Coos Bay. On July 19, 2016, the Coos Bay City Council passed two ordinances banning smoking on certain City owned properties. Ordinance 477 states that the smoking of tobacco or any other organic material in or about the Coos Bay City Hall, Public Library, Fire Stations, City Shops, and Visitor’s Information Center shall be prohibited. The area encompassed by this prohibition shall be the above mentioned facilities, adjacent City property around the building, and the parking area adjoining the buildings. This prohibition includes any and all devices by which tobacco or other organic material is burned for purposes of inhaling of the material created by such burning, including, but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and e-cigarettes, as well as the discarding of any such smoking material. Ordinance 476 bans the same and states that no person shall smoke within the boundaries of Mingus Park, John Topits Park, Eastside Park, Ed Lund Park, Taylor/Wasson Park, Windy Hill Park, South 10th Street Park, Hollering Place Wayside, Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery, Eastside Boat Ramp, and Empire Boat Ramp. In addition, no person shall smoke upon or within 25 feet of the City’s wooden boardwalk. These ordinances take effect August 19, 2016.
