According to the Oregon Employment Department’s monthly newsletter, South Coast Labor Trends, “Total payroll employment in Coos County fell by 330 jobs in July, mostly due to typical seasonal reductions in local government education jobs. Private-sector industries showed an estimated gain of 240 jobs in July. Professional and business services had the largest rise, up by 110 jobs. Leisure and hospitality continued its seasonal upturn, growing by another 70 jobs. Over the year, Coos County payroll employment rose by 530 jobs, or a gain of 2.5 percent.” In Curry Co., “Total payroll employment declined by 70 jobs in Curry County. Many private-sector industries added jobs over the month. The largest gain occurred in leisure and hospitality which gained 70 jobs in July. Between July 2014 and July 2015, Curry County added 240 payroll jobs.” Statewide, “Payroll employment in Oregon rose at a brisk pace in July, adding 4,600 jobs, following a revised gain of 2,600 in June. In July, five major industries added 1,000 jobs or more, with construction (+2,300 jobs) and professional and business services (+1,700) adding the most. Only two major industries – government (-3,200 jobs) and leisure and hospitality (-1,900) – declined substantially.”
