ODOT release – ROSEBURG – The speed limit for southbound Interstate 5 will be reduced to 55 mph on Roberts Mountain starting Monday, March 11. The speed reduction will be in place for more than a year. Throughout the week, southbound motorists should expect nighttime (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) lane closures as workers place barrier along the southbound shoulder. Once the barrier is in place, the southbound shoulder will be reduced to two feet in width and both travel lanes will remain open. Motorists should expect congestion and are advised to drive with caution through the work zone. Trucks are advised to use the right lane when traveling south on Roberts Mountain. The barrier will allow Kerr Contractors to begin excavation on the new climbing lanes. All road widening will take place along the west (or southbound) side of the highway. In the northbound direction, the 65 mph speed limit will remain in effect and all lanes will remain open.
