A suspect sought in connection with a November 15, 2013, assault involving a Samurai sword at a Grants Pass-area residence was arrested Thursday by Beaverton Police Department. According to Sergeant Jeff Fitzgerald, Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division, PRESTON JAMES SWEANEY, age 23, was arrested on December 19 at approximately 2:15 p.m. by Beaverton police in the 14000 block of SW 6th Street. SWEANEY, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants, is a suspect in an assault in which he allegedly used a Samurai sword during an argument causing laceration wounds to his 23-year old brother. Following the assault, SWEANEY fled on foot and OSP issued a news release requesting the public’s help to find him. SWEANEY was lodged in Washington County Jail for: * Fugitive from Justice (felony drug-related warrant out of California); * Misdemeanor warrant out of Curry County for Failure to Appear on original charge of Intimidation. Charges are pending in Josephine County for Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
