Late Tuesday night, Aug. 26, the Coos Bay Fire Department responded to reports of a house fully engulfed in flames. The house located at 93114 Sneddon Lane in the Libby neighborhood was vacant at the time of the fire. The Coos Forest Protective Association also responded to the scene to insure that the fire did not spread to the nearby trees and brush. The house is owned by Coos County because of negligent back tax debt. In July, the house was foreclosed, and the occupants were ordered to leave. Power was shut off to the house just last week. The County Assessor’s office has estimated value of the property at $50,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Coos Bay Fire Department and the Coos County Sherriff’s Office. Sneddon Lane is not inside city limits, but the Coos Bay Fire Department provides fire and emergency medical service to the Libby area through an agreement with the Libby Rural Fire District.
