Starting Monday morning, March 5, a short section of U.S. 101 near Lakeside will be limited to a single lane of traffic for about one month as construction begins on a culvert replacement project. The lane closures will start at the Tugman State Park entrance and continue north about 1,000 feet to the 221 mile marker. Flaggers will provide 24-hour traffic control. Motorists should expect 20-minute delays. ODOT recommends that drivers give themselves extra travel time to reach their destinations. During construction, Oregon State Police will add extra patrols along U.S. 101 to discourage speeding. Fines for moving-related traffic violations are doubled through the work zone. Access for bicyclists and pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available through the work zone. The lane closures will allow prime contractor Delta Construction to build a two-lane detour bridge over Clear Creek. In early April, traffic will be shifted onto the detour bridge, with one lane in each direction until Labor Day. This will give the contractor five months to dig down and replace the culvert under U.S. 101. In September, when traffic is shifted back onto the permanent alignment, U.S. 101 will again be limited to a single lane with flaggers as workers remove the detour bridge. All work is scheduled to be completed in early fall.
