Duck Track Honored
Oregon track and field was cemented as the most successful and well-rounded program in the nation again this year, as both the men’s and women’s teams were honored with program of the year awards. The Oregon men captured their fifth John McDonnell Program of the Year Award while the women’s program won the Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award for the eighth-consecutive year. Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score determining the award recipient. The Men of Oregon finished fourth in both the cross country and outdoor track and field seasons, while winning their third-straight NCAA Championships indoors. The total gave the Ducks nine points, one ahead of second-place Arkansas. The women’s race was not as close as Oregon finished with six points followed again by Arkansas with 12. The Ducks finished third in the cross country standings, won the NCAA Indoor title and finished runners-up last week at Hayward Field. Since the awards were created in 2009, the Oregon women have won all eight Terry Crawford Program of the Year Awards while the Oregon men have won five of eight John McDonnell Program of the Year Awards.
