The Lincoln City Police Department is pleased to announce that they will be offering a two day “Women’s Self Defense Class” to be held on Saturday, March 16th and Sunday, March 17th, 2019 at the Lincoln City Community Center. This self-defense training program is designed just for females, ranging in age from 16 yrs and up with any physical limitations (women up to 94 yrs of age have attended previous classes).  The training is broken down into two days with the first day being a classroom portion of how not to be a victim.  Topics such as personal safety, home security, vehicle security, use of weapons, rape and sex assault, reporting versus not reporting will be discussed.  The participants will then learn various punches, strikes and kicks, as well as distraction techniques that would help with an escape if grabbed in various holds.  Female attendees are also taught some basic techniques on how to get away from an attacker while on the ground. On day two, everything learned is put together and females are given a minimum of three scenarios that progress with each scenario with “a bad guy” in protective gear.  Female attendees are also suited up in protective gear.   This class is designed to help prevent females from being victim targets, as well as to help former victims of rape or assault to gain more confidence back. Overall it emphases the empowerment of women so they prove to themselves they do not need to be a victim. Class will be held at the Lincoln City Community Center located at 2150 NE Oar Place, Lincoln City. To participate on Sunday you must attend Saturday class.
