Following the lead of Douglas County, Curry County and the Brookings Police Dept. now have Text-to-911 capabilities. The emergency contact program is only available in certain communities in the state, and nationwide. Those who do not have it, but try to use it, will be referred back to calling 9-1-1. Officials say it should only be used when voice is not an option.
