On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at about 6:00 p.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a vehicle versus bicyclist crash on Highway 99S near milepost 10.5 (Three miles north of Cottage Grove). The preliminary investigation revealed a 13-year-old male juvenile was riding a bicycle on Highway 99S when he was struck by a southbound 2002 GMC 2500 pickup, operated by Richard L. PERINI, age 85, of Creswell. The juvenile suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel. PERINI is cooperating with the investigation and is not suspected of any wrongdoing. Highway 99S was closed for three hours while OSP Troopers conducted the investigation.
