At 3:53 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, Newport Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 923 SE Bay Blvd, Harbor Village RV Park. Upon arriving, first in fire department units found heavy smoke coming from a doublewide mobile home. Once they entered the structure, they found fire had spread from a bathroom down the hallway. The building was unoccupied. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes. At the same time, crews ventilated the smoke and ensured the fire was completely extinguished. Newport Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from Toledo Fire Department, Newport Police Department and Pacific West Ambulance. Newport Fire Department responded with two fire engines, one rescue truck, one chief officer and nine firefighters. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical failure in a wall outlet. There were two smoke detectors in the home, however neither were sounding when fire crews first arrived. Newport Fire Department reminds everyone to have working smoke detectors on every level of your home and test them regularly.
