CCSO news release.  On January 18, 2018, at about 3:34 pm, deputies were dispatched to Shell Lane in Charleston area of Coos Bay for a reported assault. Once deputies arrived in the area, they saw a man and woman on Libby Lane near Wallace Road. Once the man saw the deputies, he began running away from them. Deputies observed the man, later identified as Jeff Cunningham, run towards the end of Capitol Drive. Deputies contacted the woman, who advised deputies who the man was. Deputies learned Cunningham had an active warrant for his arrest for Parole Violation. K9 Odin was dispatched to the scene to track for Cunningham. K9 Odin made quick work of the track. Deputies and K9 Odin tracked down the brush at the end of Capitol Drive west towards the end of Jerome RD. K9 Odin located Cunningham hiding in the brush. K9 Odin bit Cunningham on the ankle/leg as he was hiding in the brush and not showing himself to the deputies. This was ODIN’S 58th capture in his 2 ½ year career and his first since Odin’s four month diagnosis and recovery from a bacterial infection. Deputies placed Jeff Cunningham under arrest for the warrant and medical personnel evaluated his injury prior to being transported to the Coos County Jail. Cunningham, 40 years old of Coos Bay, was booked and held with no bail. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is expanding the K9 Program and adding a second patrol K9.
